Nancy T. Poblenz, R.N., B.S.N., D.D.S., J.D., has been practicing law since 1988 and has been a Litigation Director for CHRISTUS Health since July of 2002. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Texas and a Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry in addition to her Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston Law Center. Nancy has been a member of the Education Committee for several years and served as the Committee Co-Chair for 2005 and 2006. email

Laura Trenaman is a partner in the Health Law Section at Andrews Kurth LLP. Her practice covers all aspects of health care liability claims. She has defended various types of personal injury and insurance matters, including toxic torts, health care liability claims, nursing home claims, and products liability. Laura graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1988, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She practiced oncology and cardiovascular nursing in Houston before attending law school, where she received her degree from the University of Houston in December 1996. Amanda works at Western Litigation, Inc., as a claims attorney where she manages claims for an national emergency physician group. She was previously with The Methodist Hospital System in the claims and litigation/risk management department, where she managed various hospital risks as well as had primary responsibility over The Methodist Hospital Physicians Organization, The Methodist Research Institute and the Graduate Medical Education program. She worked as an emergency room registered nurse prior to attending the University of Houston Law Center where she graduated in 2003. Amanda has been a member of and involved with the Greater Houston Society for Healthcare Risk Management since 2005. She served on the education committee since joining and has been actively involved in the planning and organization of the annual education day and CPHRM course. She served on the GHSHRM Board of Directors from 2006-2008 and currently holds the position of Vice President of the organization. email

As Risk Finance & Occupational Health Director for CHRISTUS Health, Gary Shope manages the organization's risk & insurance and occupational health programs. Previously, he spent six years managing litigation for CHRISTUS. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Accounting and a Master's degree in Public Administration. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston in 1988, and practiced estate and bankruptcy law before entering the risk management profession. He is currently Treasurer of the local Houston ASHRM chapter and Vice Chairman of the Texas Alliance of Nonsubscribers. email

Erin graduated cum laude from the University of Colorado in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Following graduation, she worked in the health care and pharmaceutical sales industry for two years. She received her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1988 from the University of Houston Law Center. Erin is currently a shareholder with the law firm Sprott, Rigby, Newsom and Robbins, Lunceford & Bell, P.C., where she has practiced since 1999. She obtained her Board Certification in Personal Injury Trial Law in 1998 and was recertified in 2003 and 2008. She is also a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas and was recognized as a Texas "Super Lawyer" in 2008 and 2009. Erin's principal area of practice is personal injury trial law, specializing in the defense of health care clients. Her professional experience includes first chair responsibility for the litigation of medical malpractice, premises liability, auto, commercial transportation, construction, products liability, DTPA, professional negligence, and wrongful death claims. She has successfully tried over 28 cases to verdict throughout state courts in Texas and has handled over 24 appeals in both state and federal courts. Erin has been an active member of The Greater Houston Society for Healthcare Risk Management ("GHSHRM") for the last 8 years. She was the legal update speaker for GHSHRM's annual Education Day in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Ms. Madden is a partner with the law firm of Johnson, Trent, West & Taylor, LLP in Houston, Texas and has devoted her 18 years of law practice to the representation of hospitals, physicians and long term care facilities. Ms. Madden began her career in healthcare in 1979 as a nurse's aide and completed her nursing education with highest honors in 1984. She worked as a medical-surgical and ICU nurse for several years in Fort Worth, Texas before entering law school at the University of Houston where she focused on health law through the law center's Health Law & Policy Institute. Susan serves as the Risk Management Liaison at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center in Houston . After obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Lamar University in Beaumont , Texas , Susan began her nursing career primarily in Cardiology, both in an acute care setting and for a cardiologist's private practice. She transitioned into the Quality Department at CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth in 1997 and in 2001, entered the field of Risk Management where she has remained ever since. Susan has been involved with Occupational Health, Property Insurance, Loss Prevention, Claim Handling and Performance Improvement. She is an active member of the Greater Houston Society of Healthcare Risk Management serving on GHSHRM's New Membership Committee and is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management. Griffin attended Baylor University, graduating magna cum laude in 1987. He attended Baylor Law School, graduating cum laude in 1990. Griffin has practiced as a trial attorney in Houston for 19 years, starting at Butler & Binion and later working at Mayor, Day, Caldwell & Keaton. Currently a partner at Andrews Kurth LLP, he practices in the field of healthcare litigation, providing risk management advice to healthcare clients and defending healthcare liability claims.
