Spring 2010

Letter from the President
Spring Greetings to all 2010 GHSHRM members. I would like to start by thanking each of you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your 2010 President.

Our year started off with a January 12th meeting which included the outgoing members and the new Officers and Board members. This meeting included recognition of and thanks to Bob Snyder, Barbara Johnson, and Linda Giddings for their dedicated service in the past years. We also discussed our 2010 Goals for GHSHRM, which included a renewed commitment to increasing our membership and improving our website.

I am delighted to report that Education Day 2010 was a resounding success. The amazing team of Janet Hale and Jeff McClure created and delivered the most highly attended Education Day in the history of our organization. We owe these two individuals a huge debt of gratitude, along with those creative and imaginative members who served on the Education Committee. In particular, our thanks go the sponsorship subcommittee headed by Bridgett Matthes and her team of Allison Meier, Lorraine Lewis, Melanie Rubinsky and Tamara Madden. These individuals, along with the assistance of Keith Lindloff and Angela Clarke, worked tirelessly during the year. Due to their efforts we exceeded our sponsorship goals, quite an awesome result in these difficult economic times. Sponsorship funds make our luncheon meetings and Education Day possible, so please let our sponsors know how much you appreciate their support of GHSHRM.

Education Day 2011 on March 4, 2011 is promising to be another fabulous seminar. This will mark our 25th anniversary of presenting this annual program. Please sign up now to help the Education Committee make this our best program ever! The initial organizational meeting will take place in April and will begin with a discussion of a theme, presentation topics and speakers. You can contact Education Committee Co-Chair Jeff McClure at JeffMcClure@andrewskurth.com or our new Co-Chair Sheila Hagg-Rickert at Sheila.Hagg-Rickert@christushealth.org for more information and the schedule of meeting dates and times.

During 2010, please become more involved in GHSHRM. Each of you has unique talents you can share to help our members find more creative ways to minimize enterprise risks in their organizations. So look through the newsletter and our website and find a committee to which you can bring your skills to help GHSHRM members advance their professional knowledge.

Have a wonderful spring and see you at our June 1st Luncheon meeting.

Sincerely,
Nancy T. Poblenz
2010 President

Committee Reports

Education Day Committee Update:
DJanet and Jeff would like to thank all those who contributed to making the 2010 GHSHRM Education Day a phenomenal success. The committee was able to secure an "all star" line up with high caliber speakers of both local and national prominence. We had the highest registration ever at 250, we had the highest sponsorship contributions, and 98% of attendees rated the conference as Excellent/ Good with such comments as - "Fabulous conference - better than any national offering I've been to of late" and "Best conference ever that GHSHRM has delivered." This was the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication from the Education Committee and all the supporting organizations who contributed cash, time, and hard work.

The Education Committee has also scheduled some great presentations for upcoming luncheons: The June 1st luncheon will feature MMSEA Revisited with Nancy Locke and Sheila Hagg-Rickert. The August 3rd Luncheon will feature Dean Wendy Braniff speaking about the new Insurance and Risk Management Degree Program at the University of Houston.

Janet Hale has completed her two year tenure as co-chairman - and the "baton" has been passed to Jeff McClure and Sheila Hagg-Rickert who will co-chair the 2010/ 2011 Committee. Anyone interested in serving on this dynamic committee can contact Jeff at jeffmcclure@andrewskurth.com.
