PURPOSE:
The purpose of the society shall be to encourage closer cooperation among healthcare risk management personnel in order to promote the development and awareness of the professional practice of healthcare risk management by:
Providing a medium of the exchange of ideas and information relative to healthcare risk management issues. Encouraging and assisting members to increase their knowledge and skills by conducting educational programs and activities. Providing a forum to consolidate information and efficient dissemination of that information to GHSHRM members. Providing a resource for institutions interested in initiating and/or improving risk management. Establishing and maintaining affiliation with the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management. Developing Strategies aimed at minimizing the potential liability of healthcare providers.
HISTORY:
GHSHRM was founded in 1985 with the cooperative efforts of both health care providers and affiliates. The American Society for Healthcare Risk Management recognized GHSHRM as an affiliated chapter in 1987.
MEMBERSHIP PROFILE:
GHSHRM's membership consists of individuals who have primary responsibility for, or actively participate on behalf of the healthcare provider in risk management, quality assurance, utilization review corporate legal, and loss control activities. Affiliate membership available to individuals who participate on behalf of the healthcare provider in risk management activities such as insurance brokers and agents, claims personnel, risk management consultants, and defense attorneys. Membership is contingent upon approval by the Board of Directors.
