About Our Organization

The Greater Houston Society for Healthcare Risk Management (GHSHRM) is an organization of healthcare risk managers, defense attorneys, insurance professionals, and medical-legal consultants who share a common purpose: to minimize the potential liability of healthcare providers. Through its bimonthly meetings, GHSHRM provides its members with a forum for the exchange of ideas and information on healthcare risk management issues; and through its formal education programs GHSHRM offers members a means of advancing their professional knowledge. Membership is open to individuals who have primary responsibility for, or actively participate on behalf of the provider in, healthcare risk management.

GHSHRM is an affiliate of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.

Purpose:

The Purpose of the society shall be to encourage closer cooperation among healthcare risk management personnel in order to promote the development and awareness of the professional practice of healthcare risk management by:

Providing a medium for the exchange of ideas and information relative to healthcare risk management issues.
Encouraging and assisting members to increase their knowledge and skills by conducting educational programs and activities.
Providing a forum to consolidate information and efficient dissemination of that information to GHSHRM members.
Providing a resource for institutions interested in initiating and/or improving risk management.
Establishing and maintaining affiliation with the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.
Developing strategies aimed at minimizing the potential liability of healthcare providers.

History:

GHSHRM was founded in 1985 with the cooperative efforts of both healthcare providers and affiliates. The American Society of Healthcare Risk Management recognized GHSHRM as an affiliated chapter in 1987.
